Muriel Pfaelzer Bodek Public Affairs Lecture: The Founder's Idea of a Good Education

J.A. Leo Lemay, Winterthur Professor of English at the University of Delaware, has been called "the dean of Franklin scholars." Having written extensively on early American history and literature, he is currently working on a projected seven-volume biography of Ben Franklin, the first two volumes of which have recently been published by University of Pennsylvania Press. In this lecture he will discuss Franklin's innovative ideas for 18th century curricula. Presented in conjunction with Educating the Youth of Pennsylvania: Franklin and Worlds of Colonial Learning, currently on display at the Library.
