Dr. Amy Gutmann was inaugurated as Penn’s eighth president in Irvine Auditorium on Oct. 15, 2004. The ceremony highlighted a week of activities that included a special Penn Community Service Day, concert, and a series of symposia exploring the role of the modern university in strengthening democracy in a diverse global society.
